2025 Compliance Alert – Illinois Pay Transparency
January 6, 2025

A new year brings new laws! One of the more impactful laws for Illinois employers was effective January 1, 2025.  Illinois now requires many employers to disclose salary ranges and benefits in job postings. Illinois employers with 15 or more employees must act now to ensure compliance.

Where to start:

  • Review your compensation philosophy and current pay practices and consider conducting a pay equity audit.
  • Assess your company’s approach to job postings (both internal and external) to ensure they align with the new legal requirements.
  • Audit all current job postings to confirm that the necessary salary ranges and benefits information is included and properly updated.
  • Consider the impact of publicizing this information as sharing salary ranges in particular is new territory for many employers. As you develop your approach and messaging, put yourself in your employee’s shoes to anticipate potential questions and concerns. Use this information to develop an internal communication strategy.

We have linked an article titled: “Pay Transparency and Pay Reporting” by Rose Canonaco, Miller Cooper’s Client HR Consulting Manager, which provides additional details about this groundbreaking law.
