HR Compliance Alert for Illinois Employers
October 17, 2023

Are your employees taking advantage of public transportation? The new Illinois Transportation Benefits Program Act requires that eligible employers allow covered employees the ability to purchase transit passes using pre-tax dollars through payroll deduction, or by participating in programs that the Chicago Transit Authority or the Regional Transit Authority offer. This mandate applies to employers with 50 or more employees who have employees in specific counties and townships. There are several qualifications defined by this Act that eligible employers should take time to understand. The effective date of this Act is January 1, 2024. Illinois is the second state to pass this type of requirement. Please contact us at chrsusers@millercooper.com if you have any questions related to this benefit.
