Tim Long, CPA, Principal

Tim Long is a Miller Cooper Audit Principal and a member of the firm’s Assurance and Accounting department. Additionally, Tim leads the Employee Benefit Plan Audit practice. As an audit principal, he is responsible for the overall direction of client services, as well as the management and supervision of his engagement teams. In addition to serving clients, he is an active member of Miller Cooper’s training program.

Relevant Experience

Tim oversees the firm’s Employee Benefit Plan Audit Group with a focus on expanding client services, building relationships and developing internal training programs. He reviews more than 50 employee benefit plan audits each year, including defined contribution 401(k) and profit-sharing plans, employee stock option plans (ESOPs), and defined benefit pension plans. Participant counts range from 100 to over 1,000 participants, and plan assets range from $5 million to over $500 million.

His corporate experience includes performing accounting and audit engagements for businesses in a variety of industries including manufacturing, distribution, software and technology, and private equity firms. He started his career with Miller Cooper in 2009 and has exclusively served privately held companies in the middle market his entire career.

Education and Professional Activities

Tim received a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and a Master of Accounting Science from Northern Illinois University. He is a licensed certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois CPA Society. Tim is a 2024 graduate of The Partner Institute, a three-year partner development program led by The Growth Partnership. He also leads the firm’s membership in the Technology and Manufacturing Association (TMA).
