John Buckun is a Tax Principal with Miller Cooper & Co., Ltd. He advises closely held companies, private equity funds, and multinational corporations on all aspects of taxation. He specializes in advising businesses with global operations and international activity. Mr. Buckun brings over 15 years of tax consulting experience from the Big Four accounting firm and leading law firm environment.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: Mr. Buckun advises businesses on federal, state and local and international tax matters related to the formation, operation and liquidation of partnerships, S corps and C corps. Mr. Buckun has substantial experience in creating and implementing tax efficient structures for mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and recapitalizations and financing transactions.
Mr. Buckun specializes in advising inbound and outbound companies on tax matters related to international activity. He has extensive experience in structuring cross border transactions including tax efficient acquisition and holding company structures, repatriation planning, IP migration and internal restructurings strategies.
He frequently consults clients on the insertion of debt into U.S. and foreign entities, the identification and minimization of subpart F income, Section 956 exposure, the utilization of foreign tax credits, FIRPTA analysis, treaty analysis and the reduction of withholding tax.
EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES: Mr. Buckun received his Bachelors of Science Degree from Eastern Illinois University and his J.D. degree from The University of Chicago. He is a member of the Illinois and Oklahoma Bar.
